There’s a reason we call the kitchen the heart of the home, it’s a gathering place, a study area, a home office, a mudroom, and of course a place to cook and eat. That’s why designing your kitchen to meet your needs and style matters—if the heart isn’t working, the rest of the home isn’t working. But how do you balance your personal style and individual needs with ever changing trends? It can be a delicate balance, but absolutely attainable with the right help from experienced designers. If you’re ready to give your kitchen a makeover, we’ve found some of the latest trends that are here to stay. From unique cabinet colors to smart appliances, there is something for every style and budget to make your kitchen the heart of your home.

9 New Kitchen Trends That You Will Love Forever

With new kitchen trends emerging, it can be overwhelming to find and then decide on what trends you want to use for your kitchen. Even if you don’t choose emerald green cabinets and a bright pink backsplash to your kitchen, there are elements of all of these trends that can be added to your space. Get ready to get inspired!

1. Flat Front Cabinetry

Flat front cabinetry has made a comeback, providing kitchens with a seamless, clean look. Flat front cabinets have more of a modern vibe and have no detail around the borders. In the image below, you can see that there is a good mix of colors and types of doors and drawers. The drawers on the oak end cabinet are flat slab drawers, as are the drawers on the lower white cabinets facing the walkway between the island and cabinet wall. However, the doors on the upper white cabinets are flat panel doors. This kitchen beautifully mixes and matches the types of doors as well as cabinet colors, showcasing that kitchens don’t have to match to be cohesive.

2. Wood Tones

Adding wood tones to any design helps warm up a space, giving the calming benefits of natural beauty to your kitchen. Want to add natural wood cabinetry but you have hardwood floors? No problem. Mixing wood tones is a stunning option when paired correctly, so working with an experienced cabinet craftsman will ensure you nail your wood cabinets.

3. Smart Appliances

They’re here to stay, and for good reason. Preheat your oven on the way home from work, turn on your dishwasher from bed and rest assured that your appliances will let you know about any problems—from malfunctions to overcooked food. Smart appliances give your kitchen convenience, sustainability, and luxury for years to come, so adding smart appliances to your kitchen remodel is a trend that is here to stay.

4. Unique Patterns, Textures, And Colors

Whether it is a patterned backsplash, green cabinets, or a blue fridge, personality is the name of the game for today’s kitchen trends. Of course, if you love a neutral look with more calming colors, you can incorporate this trend by laying backsplash tile in a unique pattern or adding one element that pops (like a kitchen island that is a different color than the rest of the cabinets).

5. Colorful Backsplashes

White subway tile is a classic, and there’s nothing wrong with sticking with the basics. But if you are feeling ready for a change that will pack a punch, add unique backsplash tile to your kitchen remodel. Incorporate this trend even if you have a neutral palette by choosing tile that has a texture or pattern with some personality.

6. No Pulls Or Bold Pulls

Omitting pulls to cabinet doors is a huge design trend that isn’t going anywhere soon. Adding a simple push latch (or “push to open” hardware) for the cabinet makes it easy to open the cabinet or drawer without exterior handles. On the other end of the handle spectrum are big, bold handles. If you are going to add them, let them be dramatic, but scale them appropriately!

Our Favorite Bold Pulls

If you’re looking to add a bit of flair to your kitchen, bold pulls might be just the answer. These pulls, long and bold, are a few of our favorites.

  • The Pomotory Pull will ground any kitchen space with it’s sleek lines and bold shape.
  • The Aldo Pull is curvy and elegant–a timeless addition to any cabinet.
  • The Nouveau Pull is a complete work of art that unapologetically catches the eye.

7. Customized For Your Life

If you want the custom coffee bar, multiple dishwashers, and a pizza oven, you should have it! Not just because you want it, but because after several years of spending more time at home, homeowners realize the importance of comfortable, customized space. So make your current kitchen your dream kitchen with customizations that make your home feel luxurious.

8. Hidden Appliances

This trend incorporates principles from the other trends we are seeing—fully customized, sleek cabinetry, with convenient features that make the home feel luxe. By adding custom cabinetry to the exterior of your appliances your eye doesn’t stop at every appliance, instead gliding over the whole space. This extra step makes your home feel elevated and peaceful, which is exactly how a kitchen should feel.

9. Ceiling Height Cabinetry

Draw the eye upward and enjoy extra storage with ceiling-height cabinetry. Not only does it make your room seem bigger and give you more storage space, but ceiling-height cabinetry screams custom luxury. Another bonus of this kitchen trend: it will never go out of style. No matter what is popular at the moment, the custom look of ceiling height cabinets will always elevate your space.

Should You Update Your Kitchen?

You’ve seen a backsplash with a unique pattern that makes your heart skip a beat, or maybe you love the look and functionality of a flat front cabinet. Maybe you’re ready for a home that looks like yours instead of every other house on your block. Maybe you dread spending time in your kitchen because it doesn’t feel welcoming, making it difficult to spend time in the “heart of the home”. Whatever your reasons for considering a kitchen update, now might be the best time to start your project.

Materials Aren’t Getting Less Expensive

There’s enough unpredictability in the materials market to warrant starting a kitchen renovation sooner rather than later. If you can save a significant percentage by starting your project this year rather than next year, it might be worth the stress of at least starting the process of redesigning your kitchen. If the whole process seems too stressful, maybe just making the first call to start designing your dream kitchen will help you save money in the long run.

Easier To Sell

Kitchens are a deal breaker for home buyers. Whether you are looking to move in the next few years or in your house for the long haul, you won’t be in this house forever. By making the kitchen a standout feature of the home, regardless of when you move you make it easier to sell when the time comes.

You Deserve To Feel Happy At Home

No one is saying that you can’t feel happy in a kitchen you don’t love. Of course, the people you share your space with are the primary reasons you feel happy in your home, but that doesn’t mean that you have to live in a space that doesn’t match your taste. Imagine how much more you’ll love your time with your family if your kitchen is beautiful and functional.
