Have you ever considered putting a double vanity in your bathroom? They’ve long been a great option for many reasons, but their popularity has risen in recent years as more and more families are recognizing the benefits of a double vanity. Not only are they an obvious way to cut down on bathroom roadblocks, but they often mean more storage space, more counter space, and improved aesthetics as well.
But do you really need or even want two sinks in your bathroom? After exploring the benefits of a double vanity with us in this post, you’ll be better equipped to answer the question and make the right choice for your home.
Improved Functionality
One of the biggest reasons families consider a double sink vanity is for the sheer convenience that doubling the number of places to brush teeth, wash hands, and shave brings. Double vanity functionality means less hogging the bathroom and potentially smoother morning routines. Getting ready for school, work, and other events in a busy schedule can become less stressful as household members utilize the convenience of the double vanity bathroom design.
Plus, with two sinks, you’re supplying your household with its very own backup system in case anything should happen to one sink’s plumbing. They may share the same countertop, but each sink in a double vanity has its own set of plumbing fixtures, offering a bit of assurance that a clogged drain doesn’t necessarily mean a totally backed up day.

Increased Counter Space
Counter space is a much-sought-after commodity in most homes, and with a double vanity in the bathroom, you effectively increase the amount of space you have to house soaps, lotions, hair tools, and makeup when in use. Of course, this is only true if doubling your number of sinks also means increasing the vanity size from what exists. Putting two sinks together in a small vanity cabinet will obviously decrease counterspace and will not have the visual effect one would hope for in upgrading to a double sink vanity. Well-designed double vanity ideas always include plenty of proportionate counter space to either be utilized or left open in a more luxurious, spa-like way.
Shared Storage Space
Bathroom double sink benefits often include a vanity large enough to accommodate plenty of increased storage space—especially drawers. If sinks are far enough apart, shared storage drawers between them can allow for a more equalized storage plan for shared items such as toothpaste, washcloths, cotton swabs, and more.
Bathroom storage space can also come in new forms with the implementation of a double vanity. Open storage for pretty jars, neatly rolled towels, and other easy-to-access items becomes much more viable without needing to worry about unsightly plumbing under the sink in a single vanity.
Having a bathroom big enough to house a double vanity can also mean better utilization of vertical space as well, without making the room feel stuffy or over-designed.
Improved Aesthetics
Beyond the niceties of offering extra counter space, storage, and improvement to daily routines, the benefits of a double vanity in beautiful bathroom design easily extend to increasing the aesthetic appeal. Where enough space exists, two sinks simply look better than one being dwarfed by a larger area. Doubling up on sinks in the bathroom also lends itself to a more luxurious atmosphere.

Another important way a double vanity impacts bathroom aesthetics is the way it opens up more design opportunities for other elements in the space. Lighting, mirrors, and faucet ideas will have myriad more possibilities when complementing two sink spaces rather than just one.
Are Double Vanities Worth It?
When you think of double vanity cabinetry and design, you might be tempted to think of doubling costs, too. However, if you have the space and need for a double vanity in your bathroom, the benefits will far outweigh the investment you make.
Considering the fact that you can have the perfect double vanity designed for your exact needs, style, and budget, that it will certainly cut down on stress and frustration, that a double vanity is much less expensive than adding another bathroom to the home, and that they increase your home’s overall value, double vanities can be a great investment for your household.

This first double vanity is so utterly striking that it’s hard to know what to designate as a focal point. And while it may not come across as a traditional double vanity (the two sinks and cabinets being separate but facing one another, as seen in the two photos) its effect is similar. I absolutely love the legs on these vanity cabinets. They were uniquely designed for Cara Fox, of the Fox Group, who wanted something pretty and feminine to lift and bring a bit of breathing room to fairly substantial master bathroom cabinets. The clean combination of the white paint, flooring, and countertops adds to the sophisticated air of the cabinetry and space.
Shifting gears entirely, this set of double sinks is actually separated by a lower makeup vanity, but the cabinetry altogether nearly spans the length of the room. This look is wholly different than many modern cabinetry pieces you’ll see but I love the traditional and slightly retro vibes it gives. Details like the smooth beaded inset of each of the drawers being mirrored by the cabinet’s side view design make it more special than you may realize at first glance.
Yet another completely distinct look, this modern black double vanity is part of a bathroom design that exudes class. There are a few things I particularly love about this cabinetry piece. One, the open shelf at the bottom—which is perfect for storing towels and extra necessities in the guest bath that it is. Two, the ease with which it draws the eye due to a dramatic shade of black paint. And three, the combination of the classic yet contemporary cabinet hardware and faucets that seamlessly complement the bathroom’s other focal points (hello mirrors, cage lights, and tile floor!).
