What’s Trending In Kitchens for 2022?

Some of these popular kitchen ideas may surprise you! There’s a lot of beauty and exciting design happening this year. Here are some of our favorite kitchen design ideas for 2022.

Colorful Kitchen Islands

A beautiful trend seeing traction is a colorful kitchen island. This beautiful and new idea stops the old tradition of matching your cabinets in every section of the kitchen. Add a punch or gentle pop of color to your beautiful kitchen island. It’s the contrast you didn’t know you needed.

Brightly Colored Cabinets

White, grey, and black are not the only options for your cabinetry.  Let your inner sunshine show with this new kitchen idea. Don’t limit yourself this year! Add gentle whimsy with pinks, greens, and yellows.

Modern Rustic

A little bit of country with a splash of contemporary. Rustic no longer requires cowboys and horseshoes. Add a touch of the rustic wood textures and some farmhouse vibes with hints of modern finishes to create a trending modern rustic kitchen design.

Kitchen Wallpaper

One of our favorite new kitchen ideas has actually been around for ages but now it comes with a modern and versatile twist—removable wallpaper. It’s simple to apply and great for when your kitchen needs a new vibe without all the labor-intensive work of a total redesign.

Mix and Match Kitchen Metals

Another fun new kitchen idea—why not mix and match your metals? Whether you are choosing complementary metals in faucets, lighting fixtures, cabinet hardware, or hanging copper pans, mixing and matching is a great way to add interest and texture to your kitchen.

Open Shelving

Eye-catching dishes, plant greenery, and art want a front-row seat in the kitchen. Open shelving is making a statement in new kitchen designs. Whether it’s plate racks or floating shelves, open shelving is a great way to provide functional storage while also adding depth and detail to your design. This open-concept kitchen idea is a great way to show off those beautiful pieces that would normally be hidden behind a door.

Texture

Texture brings interest and we’re ready for it. Keep your kitchen designs exciting and appealing through a variety of textures in your design. Whether you are mixing in reclaimed wood in key areas like an oven hood or ceiling beams with marble countertops and backsplash, you can add interest and new ideas in every corner of your kitchen with a variety of materials.

Two-Tone Cabinetry

Matchy-matchy cabinetry is out. Kitchen trends are ushering in two-tone cabinets. Choose a light and bright color for your upper cabinets while selecting something a little more bold, beautiful or modern for your lower cabinets and island. Don’t box yourself into the standard color choices.

Increased Storage

If a pandemic taught us one thing, it’s that when we actually have to use our kitchen on a daily basis we Need. More. Room. A glorious new kitchen idea is storage! Add those pantries, extra island cupboards, and larders. Not only is more storage on-trend, but clever and practical storage is a big part of new kitchen designs.

Backsplashes That Say Something

Add some art to your kitchen through a powerful backsplash. Kitchen trends are seeing homeowners branching out from what is safe and neutral for backsplashes they love. Use those open walls as a canvas for intriguing artwork.

Hidden Appliances

The more time we spend in the kitchen, we notice luxuries that would make life a little easier. Things like stand mixers, microwaves, and coffee makers having designated (and hidden!) spaces where they can stay plugged in and ready to use but off your precious countertop space and out of your hair.

Integrated Appliances

Integrated appliances are at the top of everyone’s Kitchen Needs list in 2022. They’re the ones hiding in plain sight because their doors are seamlessly designed right into the cabinetry, no longer breaking up your kitchen with a swath of stainless steel from a dishwasher or refrigerator.

Large Island

If you joined the breadmaking movement of the pandemic, you may be rethinking the size of your kitchen island. The good news is that new kitchen ideas are ushering in big and bold kitchen islands. Great for baking and gathering, a large kitchen island will make a statement in your kitchen.

Popular Kitchen Colors for 2022

You may have noticed a common thread in the trending kitchen designs—color! Color is making an impact in our kitchens in lots of different ways. Don’t hold yourself to the neutral and safe zones of past kitchen designs. Here are some popular kitchen colors for you to consider.

First off, greige—grey with a warmed undertone of beige—is your new neutral. Cabinet designs are also loving shades of blue-green with hints of grey. However, no matter what you choose, warmth is desired. Don’t shy away from pale pinks, the timeless combination of white and woods, shades of blue and even two tones of green. Be bold and try a new kitchen color, but remember, this year’s trend is keeping to warm not harsh—avoid intense colors such as bright oranges, reds, and shocking blues.

Another surprising new kitchen idea is deep, bold—even black—kitchens. Some designs are taking black or dark blue to a whole new level with dark cabinets, countertops, and appliances while adding in stark contrasts of stainless steel. Other modern kitchen ideas are bringing in sharp black coloring in lighting fixtures and appliances with concrete grey on the walls and floors.
